So you’re thinking about incorporating a plant-based diet into your daily regime?
If you’re new to this, it may seem like a hell of a transition.
Trust me, I’ve been there.
Not to worry! A plant-based diet is still super delicious and highly nutritious!

Going plant-based doesn’t have to be hard. Just making a few changes here and there can have a big impact and lead you in the right direction of making the full transition.
Luckily, you’re not the first one to try switching (And you certainly won’t be the last!)
Here’s how you can make the transition and go plant-based by next week!
Clean Out Your Fridge
Do you have milk in your fridge?
Get rid of it or finish it off.
Have any leftover meats or cold cuts?
Do the same thing.
When your fridge is full of meat and dairy, it’s going to be hard to make the transition.
Every person eats whatever is in their refrigerator and freezer. You have to make a conscience decision to eliminate unhealthy and non-vegan foods if you truly want to make the switch.
Otherwise, every time you open your fridge you’re going to see a piece of meat staring back at you and you may be tempted to eat it.
So get to it and finish the remaining non-vegan food in your fridge or toss it out.
Now you have no choice but to eat something that is vegan!
Start Off With Your Grocery List
The next step once your fridge is empty, is to get some food that is vegan!
That means heading over to the grocery store.
But before hitting up the grocery store, it might be a good idea to do some research and make a grocery list. Going plant-based is much easier when you know what you want/need to buy.
Maybe go online and look up some recipes for vegan pancakes and breakfast foods. Find things that you can make for dinner like vegan quiche, soups, and desserts. Anything you can dream of, even steak, can be made in a vegan/plant-based version
There are a million different resources out there for vegan recipes. Here are just a few:
If you need more, just do a simple Google search of “vegan recipes” and you’ll find over 650,000,000 results! (Yes, that’s the actual number.)
Now back to your grocery list.
Quit adding meat, cheese, eggs, and milk to your list.
Start adding more vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and plant-based milks.
Maybe go to a new grocery store that has more plant-based options.
Whole Foods is one of the most vegan-friendly places you can shop.
You can go check out their plant-based aisle/section.
They’ll have a ton of options from tofu, plant-based milks, substitute meats and cheeses, vegan yogurt, and so much more!
You’ll be surprised to see how many amazing things you can still purchase. Just because you go plant-based, doesn’t mean you have to eat grass (that’s just a myth!)
Let Your Family Know
Possibly one of the hardest parts about going vegan is telling the family.
Maybe your family is on board and wants to go plant-based with you.
But some might reject the idea and start criticizing you. If this happens, realize it’s okay, you’re not the first person to go through this.
If you do find your plant-based diet being rejected, do what you can on your own. This might mean you have to go grocery shopping exclusively for yourself.
Regardless, you should still let you family know, no matter the situation.
Why is it important to let your family/people you live with know you’re going plant-based?
First, they’ll know not to prepare/make you non-vegan dishes that will just go to waste! Your diet isn’t just something you can hide.
Second, you can educate them! Before anyone can go vegan, they must be educated! By telling your family you’re a vegan, as well as why you’re a vegan, you’ll get to educate them on something that’s much bigger.
Consider The Flexitarian Diet If It’s Too Hard Or Go Vegetarian First
Look, going cold turkey to a vegan diet can be pretty difficult. I wouldn’t say you could do it over night.
It can take some time, especially depending on how you were raised and your current lifestyle/habits.
But there are some stepping stones that can help you along the way.
The first way to transition to veganism, is by going flexitarian first.
A flexitarian is defined as one that limits his/her intake of meat by not eating it certain days during the week.
For example, maybe you ate meat yesterday. Tomorrow you’ll take off from eating any. The following day you may return to eating meat, and then you’ll not eat meat the day after.
Soon enough, you’ll get used to not eating meat certain days. You can start increasing the amount of days a week you don’t eat any. And before you know it, you won’t be eating any meat at all!
If you’ve found yourself not eating any meat, but still eating some animal byproducts, this means you’re a vegetarian! Congrats you’re so close to veganism!
But we still have a little to go. Regardless, going vegetarian is a great way to transition to veganism. I did it myself.
